Rhinoviruses are non-enveloped, positive-sense RNA viruses which are the main agent responsible for benign upper respiratory tract infections called common cold, but they can cause more serious illnesses in asthmatic and young patients.

Infections due to rhinovirus can be observed all year long. However, two epidemic peaks are observed during fall and spring periods.
